Patient Safety Topic

Overview

Impaired skin integrity is a patient safety concern and meets the definition of a reportable event under the Pennsylvania Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (MCARE) Act.

Pressure injuries and skin tears are two skin integrity patient safety events that are reported in Pennsylvania. Identification of risk factors, implementation of prevention strategies, and standardizing care can reduce the incidence of skin integrity events.
