Howard Newstadt joined the Patient Safety Authority (PSA) in April 2010 and serves as its senior director of Finance and Business Operations, chief information officer, and chief information security officer. In his roles at PSA, Newstadt is responsible for budget and financial planning; vendor contracts, purchasing, and payment; MCARE assessment transfers and investment; Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System (PA-PSRS) software development and support; and data security.
His previous positions include director of Information Technology for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, executive director of Business Affairs for the Yale School of Medicine, and senior financial planner for IBM’s Entry Systems Division. Newstadt received his bachelor’s in English from Dickinson College, a Juris Doctor with emphasis in health law from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, and a Master of Business Administration with emphasis in finance and quantitative business analysis from Penn State’s Smeal College of Business. Newstadt is admitted to practice law before the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is also a Certified Government Chief Information Officer.
