 What about hand sanitizer?

Most of the time, washing your hands with soap and water is the best way to get rid of germs. If you don't have access soap and water, you can use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Check the label to see if it contains at least 60% alcohol.

Sanitizers can often be effective at killing germs. However, sanitizers:

  1. Do not get rid of every type of germ.
  2. May not be as effective when your hands are visibly dirty or greasy.
  3. Might not remove harmful chemicals from hands like pesticides and heavy metals

Remember, it’s always ok to ask someone if they’ve washed their hands.
