Indu Poornima, MD, is director of clinical cardiology and noninvasive imaging and quality officer at Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cardiovascular Institute. Her clinical practice focuses on preventive cardiology and she established the Women’s Heart Center at Allegheny General Hospital over 15 years ago. She has spearheaded initiatives to achieve some of the lowest readmission and mortality rates among academic medical centers in the country while consistently scoring high on patient safety indicators at AHN.
Dr. Poornima is a professor of medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine and was formerly program director of the Advanced Imaging Fellowship at AHN. She received her medical degree from Stanley Medical College, India, and completed an internal medicine residency at Wayne State University, a general cardiology fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and an advanced imaging fellowship at Mayo Clinic. She also holds a master’s in patient safety and healthcare quality from Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Poornima is currently serving on the Partners in Quality Committee of the American College of Cardiology and on the Eastern States board of directors for the American Heart Association.
