This announcement serves as final notice to healthcare facilities about reporting requirements to the Authority under the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (MCARE) Act, Chapter 4, Health Care-Associated Infections.
Act 13
This act shall be known and may be cited as the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (Mcare) Act.
Act 52
Act 52 of 2007 requires certain healthcare facilities in Pennsylvania to report healthcare associated infections to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Pennsylvania Healthcare Cost Containment Council and the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).

Response to Complaints of Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (MCARE) Compliance
The Patient Safety Authority (PSA) shall follow the process outlined below to ensure appropriate disposition of complaints it receives related to MCARE compliance. It will keep a confidential written record of the same. All confidentiality provisions afforded by the MCARE Act shall apply to such records.
