Desiree Schuler, LPN, Restorative Nurse
Hometown Nursing & Rehabilitation Center
Safety and resident advocacy are what immediately come to mind when hearing Desiree Schuler’s name. She is Hometown’s true safety champion and consistently makes herself available to provide staff education, including providing training on off-shifts. Most recently, after a serious resident injury, Schuler personally performed a competency, including demonstration and return demonstration, of all nursing and agency staff regarding the use of the various mechanical lifts used in the facility. When it comes to resident safety, Schuler solicits input and feedback from staff and serves as a role model for her peers by wearing her critical thinking cap. Doing the “deeper dive” related to the prevention of all incidents and accidents is the norm for her. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, with Schuler’s leadership, falls in the facility were reduced by 25% this calendar year to date versus last calendar year—an awesome accomplishment.
