The Pennsylvania Opioid Surgical Stewardship Enterprise
(POSSE) engages hospitals throughout Pennsylvania to prevent chronic opioid use
among surgical patients. POSSE’s patient-centered domain engages patients in
developing patient-friendly and easy-to-understand materials that raise
awareness about the management of surgical pain and the prevention of opioid
use disorder. Join Susan Cosgrove, MPA, director of health literacy at the Health
Care Improvement Foundation (HCIF) as she discusses the basic principles of health
literacy and how they apply to the development and dissemination of education
materials for surgical patients and families.
