Sharon Bradley, Senior Infection Prevention Analyst, Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority
Norovirus causes up to 21 million cases of acute gastroenteritis and about 800 deaths annually in the United States. Prevention and control of norovirus gastroenteritis outbreaks continues to be problematic in Pennsylvania long-term care facilities, indicating a need for improvement in implementation of prevention and control strategies. This program demonstrates use of the components of the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority free online toolkit which if implemented by the team prior to norovirus season, enables effective preparation for norovirus season, including strategies to prevent widespread outbreaks, and evaluation of the effectiveness of process and outcome measures.
